How it Works
WELCOME TO BOY SCOUT TROOP 62!
Troop 62 is located in the town of Westhampton Beach, NY. We service the communities of Westhampton, Quogue, E. Quogue, Speonk, Remsenberg, Riverhead and East Moriches.
The Troop has been operating since 2009 through our Charter Organization, the Rotary of Westhampton and is a member of the Suffolk County Council, B.S.A.
TROOP 62 ACTIVITIES
The Troop meets weekly on Tuesday night, 7:30 – 8:30PM, except the last Tuesday of the month, which is the Troop Committee Meeting and Green-bar meeting.
Troop meetings are held at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church.
Weekly meetings are not held when school I not in session.
MONTHLY ACTIVITIES
September through June, Troop 62 will participate in at least 1 featured activity.
These activities may include a weekend campout, hike, bike trip or some other planned activity.

SERVICE PROJECTS
In addition to weekly meetings and monthly activities, Troop 62 is an active part of our community. The Troop participates in various community service projects throughout the year.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Every summer, the Troop travels to Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, RI for a week long summer camp. Here the boys earn multiple merit badges and rank requirements.
FUND RAISING
Delivering a great Scout program costs money. Scouts in Troop 62 participate in several fund raising events throughout the year.
Proceeds from these events go towards purchase of supplies and equipment for the Troop.
Scouts that participate in the fundraisers will receive a portion of the money for their individual account to help defray the costs of outings and Summer Camp.
TROOP LEADERS AND ADULT SUPERVISION
Boy Scout of America policy concerning adult supervision of all Scout activities is very clear.
Adult leaders, parents and other adults charged with the responsibility of supervising Scouts must be at least 21 years old. At least 2 adults must be present for all meetings, activities and outings.
Any concerns or special needs should be brought to the attention of the Scoutmaster or any of the Assistant Scoutmasters.
ABOUT BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910 as an organization to help build character, good citizenship, instill values and leadership skills for boys. Since that time, the Scouting program has become the largest youth organization in the world. The program centers around outdoor adventure, community service and traditional values that help build self-confidence, self-reliance, community awareness and strength of character in young men and women.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Membership is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts or have completed the fifth grade, or who are between the ages of 11 and 17.
Troop Leaders and Committee Members must be over 21 years of age and subscribe to the Boy Scout Oath and Boy Scout Law.
THE TROOP
Troop 62 is a group made up of several Boy Scout Patrols, each consist of 5 to 8 Scouts.
The member Scouts elect the Senior Patrol Leader, SPL, who is the Boy Scout in charge of the Troop. Each Patrol elects their own Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. Together, the SPL and Patrol Leaders form the Patrol Leaders Council, PLC, which plans Troop activities and runs the Troop meetings.
CHARTER ORGANIZATION (SPONSOR)
Each B.S.A Troop belongs to a Charter Organization. The Charter Organization shares in the responsibility of the Troop’s success by insuring there are trained leaders for the Troop.
TROOP COMMITTEE
The Troop Committee functions as an administration and support organization for the Troop. The Troop Committee is made up of parents and adult leaders and take care of non-program issues, such as fund raising, membership drives, Troop finances, and equipment procurement. Troop Committee meetings are generally held the last Tuesday of each month. Parents are invited and encouraged to come.
TROOP PARENTS
Parents play a very important role in the Troop’s success. They should encourage their Scout to be an active participant in the Troop and help them progress when they can. Parents are always invited to ALL Troop meetings, activities and outings, and are strongly encouraged to show their support by attending all Troop Courts of Honor. The Troop Committee may also ask parents to help with fund-raising events, transportation or help out with a particular activity.
